Plank/strip flooring, matchboarding, hardwood flooring are all the names for the same type of wooden floor coverings.

It is a cross-section of solid wood, and the dimensions vary from 15 to 20 mm thick, 90 to 200 mm wide, and 500 to 2000 mm long.

Plank/strip flooring mainly means a wooden floor of larger dimensions, a floor that looks old but with its appearance fits into modern architectural endeavors.

The most common types of wood used in our country for the production of this type of floor are oak, walnut and ash.

Plank/strip flooring, matchboarding and hardwood flooring is installed with the help of a cut nut and tongue.

The moisture of the subfloor, the air and the wood that is being installed must be in full compliance with the standards (more in detail in the topic “Influence of moisture on the parquet”) since moisture has a great influence on this type of floor.

The concrete subfloor must also be perfectly flat. Hardwood flooring should be glued with the best possible two-component adhesives due to the large dimensions of the individual strips.

It is preferable to use air humidifiers so that the relative air humidity is according to the exploitation standards recommended by the manufacturer.

Such floors are also smoked or thermotreated, which can improve the technical characteristics and obtain a darker color throughout the section.

The final protection of the flooring can be varnish, oil or oil in combination with wax, which is being used increasingly.

Wooden floors in general should not be sanded, i.e. cleaned with water, but with a dry cloth or furniture maintenance products. The biggest enemies of wooden floors are water and sand.

With proper installation and maintenance, solid wood floors can be used by generations.
